Adding Data
Data is added from the Metrics tab of a project. Use Expand All to open every impact area and grouping (the button then changes to Collapse All).
Figure 1 The Metrics tab expanded, showing progress against target for each metric
Each metric row shows:
- Progress against target: the amount recorded so far against the target set during project set-up, for example FTEs 0 / 20 or £0.00 / £400,000.00.
- + Add: opens the options for adding data to the metric (see ‘Choosing How to Add Data’).
- Pencil icon: edits the metric's settings on the project.
- Data Collector: choose whose periods you are viewing, where more than one data collector is assigned to the metric.
- Records Pending Approval: the number of records for the metric awaiting review by the Auditor.
- Capture periods: a grid of periods for each year of the project. A + appears on each period that is open for data. Periods before the project start date are greyed out, and later periods become available as they fall due.
- Totals: the amount and social value recorded for each year, and overall progress against the target.
- Metric Guidance: a summary of how the metric should be recorded.
- Data Collector: the person the record is being submitted for.
- Period: the capture period the record relates to, for example August 2026.
- Amount: the total for the period, for example the number of FTEs.
- Evidence your claim: select Click to upload or drag and drop a supporting file (up to 30MB). Select Accepted formats to see which file types can be used.
- Comment: any context for the record.
- Employee ID
- Employer (Organisation)
- Employment start date
- FTE claim
- Job title
- Postcode (used to determine local or non-local status)
- Confirmation the role is a net new position, not a backfill, replacement or redeployment
- Confirmation of the basis for the local claim (for example, defined at project level)
- Supporting attachments (for example, a payslip) and any additional comments
The social value generated so far is shown on the right of each impact area, with a running total beside each grouping.
Viewing Capture Periods
Select the arrow beside a metric to expand it and show its capture periods.

Choosing How to Add Data
Figure 3 The three options for adding data to a metric
A panel opens on the right, showing the metric's impact area, grouping and name, with three options:
|
Option |
When to use it |
|
Add Record |
Create a new record for the period, using Basic or Full Data Entry (see ‘The Add Record Panel’, ‘Basic Data Entry’ and ‘Full Data Entry’). |
|
Bulk Upload |
Import multiple records at once from a CSV or Excel file (see ‘Step 1: Upload File’ in the ‘Bulk Upload’ article). |
|
Submit Zero |
Confirm there is nothing to report for the period, rather than leaving it blank or entering unnecessary detail. |
Submitting a zero
Selecting Submit Zero opens a panel for confirming there was no activity on the metric in one or more periods.
Figure 4 The Submit Zero panel
- Under Select data collector(s), choose who the zero applies to. By default this is set to All collectors.
- Under Select periods to submit zero, select + on each period with nothing to report. Scroll sideways to see later months.
- Select Submit, or Cancel to close the panel without submitting.
A zero can only be submitted for periods that do not already contain data. When submitting for several collectors at once, any period that already has data for a given collector is automatically left out for that collector.
The Add Record Panel
Selecting Add Record opens the Add Record panel. The top of the panel is the same for both data entry types:
Select Learn more under the guidance to open the Additional Information panel alongside the form.
Figure 5 The Additional Information panel, opened from Learn more
This panel shows the same detail as the information panel in the Metric Library (see ‘Browsing Metrics’ in ‘The Metric Library’ article), including the beneficiary and full instructions for the metric, such as how the local area should be defined. It can stay open while you complete the record. Select the X to close it.
Underneath, two tabs switch between Basic Data Entry and Full Data Entry. Which tabs appear, and which opens first, depends on the data entry settings chosen for the project (see ‘Project Set-Up Step 5: Data Entry and Validation’ in the ‘Converting Bids and Project Set-Up’ article).
