Surveys

Surveys and questionnaires can be configured and sent out to gather feedback or impact evidence (for example, following a volunteering activity), with responses feeding back into the system. Question types include short text, long text, number, radio buttons, checkboxes, yes/no, star ratings and more. Surveys are found under Surveys in the navigation menu.

Figure 1 The Surveys screen, listing existing surveys

The Surveys screen lists every survey, with its title, the template it was built from, the number of responses received and its expiry date. Type into the filter box under any column heading to narrow the list, or use the search bar. From here you can:

  • Select Create Survey to set up a new survey.
  • Select Manage Templates to create or edit reusable survey templates.
  • Select a survey title to view its results, or use the three-dot menu at the end of a row for further options.
  • Aggregated results: how all respondents answered each question, combined. Free-text answers are listed individually.
  • Instructions: the instructions shown to respondents.
  • Individual Responses: a list of each response with the date and time it was submitted. Select one to open that respondent's full answers.

What respondents see

Figure 2 A survey as it appears to a respondent

Respondents see a branded form with your organisation's logo, the survey title and expiry date, any instructions, and the numbered questions. In the example above, the first question asks for a free-text answer and the second asks for a star rating out of 10.

Figure 3 The results page for a survey

Selecting a survey title opens its results page. The tiles at the top show the number of responses and the expiry date. Underneath:

Rating and scale questions are shown as bar charts, with the number of responses for each score, making it easy to see the overall pattern of feedback.

Tip Use surveys after an activity to capture quotes and feedback that can be added to a report in Report Builder (see ‘Report Builder’ in the ‘Reporting’ article) as evidence of impact.
